Lower GI Tract
Lower GI tract includes the anus, rectum, colon, and cecum with appendix.
Flexible Sigmoidoscopy/ colonoscopy utilizes a thin endoscope to examine the rectum, sigmoid colon, descending colon and /or upto cecum and in some cases last few centimeters of ileum. It is done with or without sedation. The primary goal of flexible sigmoidoscopy/ colonoscopy is to evaluate for bleeding, to survey lesions, or to evaluate certain symptoms involving the colon or rectum.
Common problems encountered in Lower Gastrointestinal tract include piles, fissure, fistula-in-ano, appendicitis, anal and rectal cancers, colon cancers, and bleeding from the LGI due to various causes including diverticulosis, inflammatory bowel disorder, apart from the above mentioned diseases.
